Q: I love my 95 4runner but need to upgrade has anyone gone from a 4runner to highlander, or other suggestions?
My 95 4runner is in great shape, need slightly bigger vehicle, Thinking of new 4runner. Worried about gas prices, and like the third row seating. But after driving a 4runner for 13 years not sure I want anything else, but other vehicle have been suggested. Is it hard to convert to a different vehicle, after driving a 4runner.
A: highlanders are better on gas. if you still want an SUV, you can get the rav4, or even the highlander hybrid if you can afford it. or you can get the sienna.
Q: What would make my 1986 4runner steam up the cabin with coolant?
My 1986 4runner has suddenly started steaming up my cabin. It is so bad that I cannot see out the windows when I am driving. Can anyone provide answers as to what would cause this?
A: Your heater-core is shot.
Q: What engines will fit a 1995 Toyota 4runner to give me more horse power?
I have a 1995 toyota 4runner. I blew the head gasket and for the price to replace the head gasket I found for a little more money I can put in a new engine. I know I’m going to need a new transmission to suit a different engine as well as a new rearend. What 3 liter engines are out there that would make a suitable swap and give me more horse power?
A: I will need all of the numbers off the plate on the firewall to give you the correct advice as to how to fit the engine as the 1UZ-FE is the one to fit. Keeps it all Toyota, sounds nice, goes like you would not believe and uses less gas that the V6
Q: What is a reasonable price for these repairs on a 92 Toyota 4Runner?
We live in the Houston Texas are if that matters and the 4Runner is a 6cyl 4wheel drive.
I took my sons car to get inspected and it failed. The inspection place said I needed to get the following:
Catalytic converter
EGR Valve
Tail Pipe
Also would this be something I would get done at a muffler type shop?
A: A lot depends on where you take it …the dealership being the most expensive. But going to the cheapest shop in town may be false economy if they do a lousy job …..Find a *GOOD* highly recommended shop for the repairs.
Looking at my favorite online parts shop (RockAuto.com) the EGR valve wll run $161.00 and the catalytic converter will run $115.00. I don’t know what you mean by a “tailpipe” because the exhaust system has a couple of pieces it’s made up of.
Now, those are online prices ….you could safely rasie them half again or double them to get the price you’d pay for them when having a shop install them and almost triple them if you took it to the dealership …I think that would be a safe ballpark figure. Then tack on labor at $70/hr and your looking at about 400-500 smackers to fix your son’s truck. I hope he’s got a job and plans to pay you back ….
Q: How can i boost a 91 toyota 4runner and make it lighter?
So my cousin has a toyota 4runner a 97 at that it has no power even in 4 wheel drive what mods can i do or something i work on cars i just dont know much about toyotas someone give me some hints if you have any plese also i want to know if there is a way to make it lighter thanks.
A: I was going to ask if it’s a 91 or 97. But it doesn’t matter.
A 4Runner is not a sports car. It has a lot of torque for pulling, but not for driving fast.
If you want something that drives fast, get a Sports car not an SUV.
Q: How much would it cost to paint the roof of my 1998 Toyota 4Runner?
My 4Runner is in excellent shape with only 63k with the exception of the roof. I periodically waxed the car but was lazy and neglected the roof. Now there are those blotches of sun damage where the paint seems to have melted away and looks bad over about 50 percent of the roof. The rest of the paint is fine. I want to sell it and was wondering if its worth it to get that area touched up and what it would cost. I have a greenish blue original paint and how close can they match it up? Any help is appreciated!
A: To paint the roof, and for them to fade match it to the rest of your paint would be more money than you would want to spend.
Probably around $1000 dollars at any trust-worthy auto paint shop easily with labor costs.
It’s not that big of a deal. No one even sees the roof unless they are putting something on it. It won’t increase your selling value enough to make up for the amount you spent on getting it painted.
Q: How do I reset the alarm system in my 4runner when battery is replaced?
I had to replace the battery in my 93 toyota 4runner. When the battery is installed the alarm sounds off and the horn won’t stop honking. It also won’t allow me to start the engine. I have to unhook the positive battery connection to make the horn/alarm shut up. How do I fix this? It is a TDS alarm. Can’t find any decent instructions on how to repair this problem. I bought used and haven’t had the vehicle very long.
A: if it has a factory alarm on it it is usually as simple as hooking up the battery , locking all the doors and unlocking the drivers door by manually turning the key from the outside
Q: How many amps does 2006 4runner alternator give out?
Anyone know how many amps the stock alternator for the 2006 Toyota 4runner SR5 gives out?
Thanks.
Oh, and does anyone know how many volts of electrical power the car produces?
A: 90 amps, producing 12 volts.
Q: How do I fix my cigarette lighter on a 96 toyota 4runner?
My cigarette lighter went out in my 96 toyota 4runner. Is there a fuse I should change, or any typical solution/trouble shoot I can do?
Thanks.
A: should be a fuse for your lighter if the fuse checks out good then it is most likely the element.
You should be able to find a replacement cigarette lighter element at any auto parts store.
Q: What is wrong with the high beam lights of my toyota 4runner 2002?
I have a Toyota 4Runner 2002 3.0TurboDiesel, and I have a problem with the headlights, the low beam head light works perfect, and the high beam head light works only when I pull the head light switch towards me (for a quick change of lights), but it does not work when I push the light switch forward (for a permanent change to high beam). The dealer tells me I have to change the turn signal/head light switch in the steering wheel, but they also say I have to change some control unit integrated circuits. They don’t seem to be sure what the problem is, so before buying some expensive integrated circuits, I wanted to hear some suggestions on how to troubleshoot the problem and/or confirm the dealer diagnostics.
A: You will end up changing the switch, this is a weak point in the lights!
Q: How do you access the audio system in a 1997 Toyota 4runner to replace with new system?
I have a 1997 Toyota 4runner and i would like to put a Alpine iDA-X001 in but i can’t figure out how to get into the dash to remove the old and put in the new. Also is there a problem with the system i picked that it wouldn’t fit in my car or would it work perfectly?
A: Here is a link of instructions with pictures.

Q: What is wrong with my high beam toyota 4runner 2002 lights?
I have a Toyota 4Runner 2002 3.0TurboDiesel, and I have a problem with the headlights, the low beam head light works perfect, and the high beam head light works only when I pull the head light switch towards me (for a quick change of lights), but it does not work when I push the light switch forward (for a permanent change to high beam). They don’t seem to be sure what the problem is, so before buying some expensive integrated circuits, I wanted to hear some suggestions on how to troubleshoot the problem and/or confirm the dealer diagnostics.
A: First, I am making an assumption that your diesel is wired the same as a gas one, as here in the US we don’t have the diesel. But the critical question is, “Does the truck have daytime running lights?” If no, the answer is simple: you need a headlight switch, which you canNOT disassemble to repair. It is one of the new modular ones that are all fastened together and can’t be fixed. However, if you DO have DRLs, the answer is MUCH more complicated because all inputs from the headlight switch go to one DRL relay (computer) and all functions are controlled from there. No doubt the dealer hedged in their answer because they know that the most likely answer is the switch, but want to leave room to cover themselves if that doesn’t fix it. Unfortunately, from studying the diagram, it would be really tricky to bypass the relay to test, and you would really have to know what you were doing. If it were in my shop, I would check for continuity across the switch in high beam ( pins 7 and 16, a violet wire and a white with black tracer wire). If none were there, I would put the switch in and hope for the best. I might would even see if I could find another vehicle and borrow the relay just to be safe, but I completely understand their hesitation. I tell you, until you try to diagnose these modern cars (which is what I do every day!) you just don’t understand what we are up against. In this specific case, if you follow the diagnostic tree for inoperative high beams in the diagnostic section of the Toyota Information System, it gives you location of the components and NO help on diagnosis.
Maybe you could cut the guys a break……
Hope this helps. God Bless!
Q: How can you change the color of my dashboard lights from a 1997 4runner?
I saw a 4runner with blue lights for the speedometer and I want to know how I can do that? Is it a kit or is it just changing out the light bulb?
A: just changing out the light bulbs.
Q: How much would it cost to rebuild the transmission on my 1990 automatic 4runner?
My 4runner sometimes wont shift out of first gear, and I want to know good estimates on how much it would cost to fix.
A: non-electronic… maybe $1500. With Electronics… maybe $3000
