I am looking to purchase a used car. I was sold on a 2003 TL, but now after doing extensive research, have learned about the transmission issue. I would LOVE to buy an 04, but it’s just not in the budget. I know Acura covers them up to 100k miles, but do they actually fix the issue or put a bandage on it? Also, was this just a small % of the cars of the production line? I have to go back to the drawing board if this is a big issue. I love cars and really want to get something used, but nice. My budget is 16-18k. Was thinking (if not the TL) 04-05 Volvo S60, Infiniti I35 (if i can find one), was thinking Audi A4, but don’t think I could sleep with the reliability issues I hear about. Any others??? I also was thinking about an 03 Lexus ES 300, but getting such an old vehicle bothers me, should it? All thoughts, experience, advice would be great. I have to turn in my company car next week as I’m switching jobs. Thanks a lot in advance.

A: I used to work for a Honda-Acura dealership. When they would come off the truck, the most I ever saw one have on it was 2 miles. That is the most that any new car should have on it.

A: For a new car straight from the port to a dealership after PDI it should not have more then 10 miles.
The Acura HAS been test driven or used for a few lunch runs.
Its YOUR new car, be picky. No more then 10 miles and in the color you want and dont let them change your mind or DX (dealer exchange) one in for you because lot attendents are brutal on cars.

Q: How do I make my Acura TL 1999 blow more air?
I have a 1999 Acura 3.2 TL and I’m just wondering how I can make the air conditioner blow more air. It feels like nothing is coming out and takes 30 minutes for the car to heat/cool. I had a mechanic test it and he said it’s producing the correct temperature and insists there’s nothing wrong, but it doesn’t blow enough air!
A: this car has a cabin air filter, for the air conditioner, that needs to be changed..not the air filter for the engine – it is a different filter.

they have pans that you can catch oil AND carry it back to the store to dump the used oil (without spilling). Get the large size as it is difficult to get the oil to flow out just into the pan opening.
If you don’t have hand tools, I suggest getting Sears Craftsman brand. They are solid like rock. And if they EVER break, just take it back and they will give you a replacement tool – on the spot. That way you can continue with the oil change (repair).
Sears also sells Jack & Jack stands. You can get their lowest price version for the home use.

I would wait for a sale on their hand tools. They have sales almost every month. I got the 154/155 piece set for $99. The set does NOT include filter tool – but that’s pretty cheap.

Get the cheap oil filter tool – they are good enough for once in a while use.

Just a FYI -
There are 4 most important maintenance items in your engine
(1) engine oil (3k – 5K miles) – even with a full Synthetic
(2) tranny oil (30K miles)
(3) coolant (3 years)
(4) timing belt (60K miles)
Just keep those maintenance and your engine and tranny will be problem free. I have a 94 Civic with 187K miles and the engine + tranny + suspension runs like new. I get 41 MPG (doing 72 MPH). I can get even better MPG doing 55.
Good maintenance pays off.

P.S. Don’t use the oil filter tool to tighten the oil filter. Just use your firm grip. Don’t over tighten your drain plug. It does NOT hold anything but just block the oil.

After they’re done, tell them to wash your car too. I swear the only good thing about Acura dealerships is that they wash your car after every simple thing.

I have a 2006 Acura TL and the color is Anthracite Metallic which is a dark grey color. On the Front Right Quarter Panel, there is a dent which looks like it was shot with a bullet but the bullet didnt go through the metal. Its diameter is the size of a penny.
How much in general would it cost if I were to bring it to a bodyshop and have them repair it with that powder stuff like joint compound and spray it.
Has anyone repaired a dent that size before? How much did it cost you?
A: paintless dent removal ask a detail shop in your area they will know the # to call there about 20-30 $ per dent( no repaint or bondo) hope this will help.
Q: How well does the acura tl’s navigation system voice command work?
I am very interested in the effectiveness of the voice commands in the acura tl
A: It’s an awesome feature. However, you have to spend some time learning the correct commands and the proper screens for the commands if you want to use it effectively. The only negative I’ve found with it is that the fan can’t be up too high, or else your commands won’t be understood. I love being able to change climate and stereo with voice commands in addition to navigation commands.
In my opinion, when I bought my 2005 TL w/nav, it was by far the best nav system available.
Q: How can I install a radar detector cord in the roof of a 2004 Acura TL?
I am going to be purchasing a 2004 Acura TL, hopefully soon. I test drove one in which the previous owner had installed a radar detector cord through the roof, so that he could mount the detector next to the rearview mirror. I’m not purchasing that particular car. Should I do this installation myself? Or, where can I have it done? Any of you ever done this before? Thanks. Also, and other customizations that you would reccommend for this car?

A: you can get a conversion kit for your fog lights, if the fog lights are part of the headlight assembly the light bulbs are 9006 bulb, if the fog lights are separate for the head light assembly and on the bottom of the bumper it should be an H8 bulb . i recommend getting a a digital slim ballast kit for your car its easier to install.
